Sterling as Seuss Print

Sterling as Cat in the Hat

In looking for inspiration for The Kims, friends who gave me permission to do as I pleased with their paintings of their pets, I ran across a joking plea that someone gift Kim a print of an original Dr Seuss piece that introduced The Cat in the Hat for the first time. After considering legal issues and remembering that satire and parody are well covered as legal and doable, I decided to transform our childhood mischievous friend into Sterling, a Boxer mix if memory serves. It was all done in gouache, and I was surprised how accurately I could produce a crayon/marker style stroke for the background to mimic the original. If you want me to produce some parody or satire for your pet painting, message me and let me know what you’re imagining and we can get that done!
